TATTOO REMOVAL

What is laser assisted tattoo removal?

Laser tattoo removal is a treatment to help diminish and remove the appearance of unwanted tattoos. During this treatment, we use a specific laser and wavelength to send out high-intensity pulses of light that target the ink inside your tattoo but leave the skin around it alone. As the ink absorbs these pulses of light, it begins to heat up. This heat makes the ink break into tiny pieces, which your immune system & lymph system can then clear away and flush out. Your tattoo starts to fade as the ink is broken down and removed through your body.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

Lasers remove tattoos by breaking up the pigment colors with a high-intensity light beam. Black tattoo pigment is the smallest size color and also absorbs all laser wavelengths, making it the easiest color to treat. Other colors can only be treated by selected lasers based upon the pigment color. Some colors are much more difficult to treat because of the size of the ink molecule. Certain colors might need more sessions, require more intensive post care as well as need specific laser wave lengths (there are 4 on the current market that are used)

What you should expect during a laser tattoo removal session:

  1. You will need to have your medical intake done with our Medical Director or Nurse Practioner to diagnose and clear you medically for the laser.
  2. Your TXA Medical Assistant will answer any questions and make sure it’s OK with you to go ahead. Let them know if you have any concerns.
  3. They might take a picture of your tattoo to show the “before” and “after.”
  4. You’ll be given a pair of laser safety goggles or shields to protect your eyes. The area is cleaned and dried.
  5. We have the best cryo-cooler device to help with pain management and post healing is accelerated.
  6. If you are concerned about pain, we can schedule numbing injections for the ultimate comfort, or you can ask about topical applied numbing that’s applied before arrival. The level energy is very important to lessen the risk of scars and still get the ink reduction/removal.
  7. Your TXA MA will test the laser levels on a spot to see how your skin/tattoo reacts. Safe levels
  8. Your TXA MA will use the laser to pass pulses of light through your skin. The ink in your tattoo absorbs this light and starts to break up. They might pass the laser over your tattoo at least a few times, and sometimes they wait a little while in between passes. Frosting or blanching is very normal and considered a great clinical endpoint.
  9. It can be uncomfortable, but most areas are relatively quick in completion.

Most people need several for the most/best reduction or if complete removal is the goal. Because there are so many variables, we can’t give guarantees on how many sessions or if complete removal is possible. Things that we do know is: Black removes fastest, color can have higher chance of blisters after, color removes slower & the older the tattoo the better for removal.
